Once you make a backup how do you play the video files.
You can play the video file using the video player that is on the disk. You can also use the video player to convert the file from H.264 to AVI which can be played using many conventional players. If you do not have access to the disk, you can download the video player/converter here: http://support.techprosecurity.com/entries/265981-video-player-converter

I have used the player to watch the video file generated by the DVR, and I have also used it to convert to AVI. Trouble is, Windows Media Player does not recognize the resulting converted AVI file. Is there a specific codec required to play the AVI?
Thanks.
I just tested it myself. I have a file on my desktop I converted a while back. I just opened it with Windows Media Player and it plays fine. There is something other than the file itself causing the issue. Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player. I checked and the version I am using is 12.07600.16667 . I have Windows 7 64bit. The file I am playing is a 7.75mb AVI file I created on 11/18/2010 from my DVR. I converted it using the player that came with the DVR. The other thing you might check are the security settings you have for the video file. I have permissions all set up for allow.
Thank you for your response. I found and installed the H264 codec and all is well.
Glad it all worked out!
Will it work for Windows XP, so far I am having no luck.
